information about rob’s memorial service

**EDITORIAL NOTE: about 2 years ago, my best friend rob was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. since that time, he had hospital stays at both uams and md anderson in houston, tx. there were times that rob could have walked out of the hospital and conquered the world and there were times when he was preparing to leave this present reality. last saturday, rob’s preparation for death culminated with just that.**

most of you know by now that my friend, rob toon, passed away last saturday, february 13 in the wee hours of the morning. after 2 years of dealing with the realities of leukemia, rob moved on to the next space, somewhere where his pain is gone and the broken is made new.

but rob is much more than a guy with leukemia who was broken and weakened. rob had a beautiful life and tomorrow, we’re going to celebrate him. he has a beautiful family, friends literally all over the nation and was immensely talented and intelligent.

tomorrow morning, at 10 a.m. at crossbridge church in bryant, friends and family will gather for a celebration of rob’s life. one of rob’s former pastors and long-time friend, tim jackson, will deliver rob’s eulogy and offer a few words of reflection. in addition, some of rob’s friends will share some thoughts. taimur shaikh, a long-time friend and partner in ministry, will begin, followed by lifelong friend/brother gary matthews. finally, i’ll take a few minutes (if i can keep from rambling…) to remember rob and lift up his life. after that, we’ll have a reception of sorts, offering people a time to share stories, listen to some of rob’s favorite music and play guitars (anyone who has ever played with rob is free to bring their guitar and play).

it should truly be celebatory. rob, of all people, wouldn’t have wanted a wah-waaahhh kind of service (he actually put it to me in those terms…), so, whereas we’re certain some tears will be shed, we hope to honor his life with laughter and thoughtful reflection.

we’d love for you to join us. you can click here for a map to the church. if you want any more information, please feel free to leave a comment, shoot me an email or give a call.
