for several weeks, there have been signs and indicators that a new brandi carlile album was imminent. today, those suspicions were confirmed when she announced the march 3 release of the firewatcher’s daughter, due to release on her new label home, ATO records.
ann powers at npr has a nice piece about the upcoming album and in it, she shares the lead single, the eye, a track that carlile and the twins have been performing live for quite some time. it’s a beautiful track, influenced by the likes of crosby, stills & nash as well as the california pop of the eagles.
the album is described a rock record and carlile says it’s her most personal music to date, coinciding with the birth of her first child. we’ll hear the album in full in a couple months, but in the meantime, you can watch the (mesmerizing) video for the eye.
